Carribbean Dream

Caribbean Dream
Quilt designed and machine quilted by Patti Carey
Pieced by Susan Ebsworthy
Stonehenge Maui, Stonehenge Mojave, and Stonehenge Caribbean fabrics designed by Sunshine Cottage for Northcott Silk

Harmony is defined as an aesthetic arrangement of parts, engaging the viewer with an inner sense of order and balance. Such is Caribbean Dream, a controlled scrappy quilt that was created using the most recent colorways in Northcott's Stonehenge line: Maui, Mojave, and Caribbean. The consistent arrangement of Ocean Wave blocks and the cool, calming shades of blues and greens, which are characteristic of the Caribbean Sea, create a quilt that is pleasing and harmonious to the eye. Stonehenge inspiration comes from the colors and textures of the natural world. From the hot, dry deserts and cool ocean waters to the tips of icy glaciers, these fabrics are diverse and dynamic enough to stand on their own, yet also make ideal backgrounds, fillers, and blenders.

Tropical Breeze
Quilt designed by Pine Tree Country Quilts
Breeze fabric designed by Wendy Slotboom for In The Beginning Fabrics

“Like so many of my designs, how Breeze started out is not how it ended up,” explains fabric designer Wendy Slotboom of In The Beginning fabrics. The tropical jungle theme remained constant, as did the large foliage and passion flowers; however, the little jungle critters evolved into playful dragonflies, ladybugs, and animated snails. This delightfully fresh collection appeals to the young as well as to the young at heart, which seems to be Wendy’s style. Breeze comes in three bold colorways—pink, aqua, and purple—all of which can be mixed and matched, making this collection ideal for both indoor and outdoor decorating, beautiful clothing, and lots of charming summer accessories.

Jacobean Elegance

Jacobean Elegance
Quilt designed by Sue Goth and Cathy Anderson of Quilt Basket
Machine quilted by Debby Brown
Jacobean Jewels fabric designed by Red Rooster Fabrics’ Design Team

Jacobean style reflects early English Renaissance architecture and decoration that date back to the reign of King James I. The sophisticated, elaborate florals that make this style so familiar and fashionable were the inspiration behind Red Rooster's Jacobean Jewels collection. These stunning fabrics feature large stylized florals with intricate vines and leaves in contemporary shades of rich plum, olive, dusty pink, and pale yellow. Much like traditional Jacobean style, the old-fashioned floral elements in this collection are ideal for complete bedroom makeovers and other home decor projects.

English Manor

English Manor
Quilt designed by Kaye England
Machine quilted by Cathy Franks
English Pathways, Bread & Butter I and II, and Basically Kaye Shirtings fabrics designed by Kaye England for Wilmington Prints

Designing contemporary fabric with a vintage ambience is Kaye England's forte, and her latest English Pathways and Bread & Butter II collections reflect this classic style. Both lines are part of Wilmington's Progressive Patchwork Program—providing freedom to create quilts without worrying about the availability of coordinating fabrics. The beauty of this program is that the fabrics in each collection are created for a unique purpose: They can stand on their own, but at the same time are designed to blend in color, design, scale, and function with previous collections in the program. This way, quilters can always count on coordinating fabric to complete a work in progress. English Pathways is a 17-piece collection featuring elegant detailed scrolls, grandiose flowers, and intricate fretwork. While stunning on its own, it coordinates flawlessly with Kaye's previous lines: Bread & Butter I, Basically Kaye, and Shirtings. The range of texture, scale, and harmonizing color allows options and offers flexibility—fabrics that quilters will reach for time and again.

Pan-American Expo

Pan-American Expo
Quilt designed by Karen Witt of Reproduction Quilts
Pan-American Expo 1901: Redworks fabric designed by Laurie Voggenthaler for Blue Hill Fabrics

Redwork is a style of decorative needlework that swept America between 1880 and 1930, due largely to the availability of colorfast red thread. Still popular today, Redwork has been re-created by Laurie Voggenthaler with stunning red and cream prints that coordinate beautifully with a pre-printed historical Redwork panel. The panel depicts early twentieth-century images associated with home and family, such as children, animals, flowers, and nursery rhymes, as well as motifs depicting the social and political influences that commemorate a significant event in our nation's history—the 1901 Pan-American Exposition held in Buffalo, New York. At the Exposition, penny squares (6" muslin squares stamped with a variety of designs) sold for one cent each. Some of these squares honored several of the exhibits in the exposition, while others featured presidential portraits. While Redwork was particularly popular over a century ago, this charming and nostalgic style of embroidery is still being created by artists today. If desired, you can embroider the Redwork motifs with red embroidery floss for a more authentic look.
