Spring 2012

Fabrics are works of art, even before they're reworked, cut up, and manipulated. It's not hard to fall in love with all the beautiful colors, prints, and textures—and just when you think you've found your favorite fabric, there's another just around the corner that you love even more! Fabrics spark creativity. Whether you're quilting, sewing for family or friends, your home, or your livelihood, working with fabric can be exciting and rewarding.

With this second issue of Quilt Trends, our goal is to spark that creativity. We've included quilts and projects using current fabrics, as well as projects to entice you to try something new while improving your sewing skills. We've included some classic favorites and modern designs using up-to-date fabric, as well as some beautiful floral and garden prints in projects that welcome spring and encourage creativity.

Mend It Better: Creative Patching, Darning, and Stitching by Kristin M. Roach makes patching, hemming, and darning cool! Her creative techniques, along with ideas from guest crafters, will inspire you to reuse, recycle, and repurpose worn clothing. Flaunt a whole new look by giving these items new life—repair holes with bright thread and a creative darning stitch, revive a stained shirt with the addition of fun embroidery, or embellish vintage clothing with beads/buttons/lace/decorative threads. Kristin's approach to mending is, "Don't just make it wearable, make it better." Eco-conscious sewists will love the innovative solutions using both hand and machine stitching.
